YEAR 1

Welcome to the last term of 2020, the year, which seems to have passed very quickly. It was fabulous to see all the smiling faces back at school again. Term 4 is always a busy term and in our new “Covid safe” environment we will be continuing our school routines as normal as possible. This includes not drinking from the taps, so please ensure your child has a drink bottle every day so they can refill as needed.

In English, this term students are learning to write Narratives and we have been completing “Story templates” focussing on the characters in a story, the setting, the problem and the solution. They have also started writing simple stories with some prompts.

In Maths, we have covered fractions of groups, sharing and at present, students are working on creating picture graphs from data provided and interpreting data from a picture graph.

Year One students looked amazing with so many dressed up in their favourite book characters on the 19th October. As part of Book Week activities, we read the book “Where Wild Things Are” in class and students created their monsters and they had to complete the speech bubble “I wonder why………?”. They came up with many interesting endings. Students also visited the Book Fair at school and bought posters, stationery items and activity books.

Students were excited also about the Athletics Carnival and had a lot of fun on the day, participating in all the different activities. There are a lot of snap shots from the day in this issue of the newsletter.

Let us make the remainder of this term even a greater success by working together as a team and supporting our lovely students of Year One with a focussed approach to improving their reading skills as much as we can.

Thank you for your continued support.
